Description

TLDR; Learn how to determine and troubleshoot safety prompts that repeat on macOS Monterey 12.3.1 on an Intel MBP?

Fantastical.app (from the Mac App Retailer) and TV.app (the apple app) will ask a number of occasions a day for permission to make use of location knowledge (as in, the dialog field that pops up asking “X wish to use your present location”). I grant them entry every time, and likewise see that they’re listed as enabled/licensed for location knowledge within the System Preferences -> Safety & Privateness -> Location Providers space.

I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling Fantastical.app, however the challenge continues.
I’ve additionally tried unchecking/re-checking the permission of the apps (Fantastical.app, Fantastical Helper.app, TV.app) however the prompts for authorization hold coming again.

I had the Console.app open at the moment and after the difficulty popped up I went trying by way of the logs for locationd log traces. A couple of that appeared “fascinating” or related (extra log traces beneath).

locationd denied entry to file-read-data

error 15:24:14.047524-0400 kernel Sandbox: locationd(91559) deny(1) file-read-data /Purposes/Fantastical.app

From what I collect, which can be incorrect, however locationd is attempting to learn knowledge concerning the app bundle, however fails. I seemed on the proprietor of the /Purposes/Fantastical.app/ bundle, and so they had been root:wheel, which looks as if the default for any app downloaded from the Mac App Retailer.

locationd recognizing that Fantastical.app needs location knowledge

default 15:24:14.052587-0400 locationd shopper 'com.flexibits.fantastical2.mac' not licensed for location; not beginning but

This looks as if Fantastical is asking for location knowledge, and locationd is remarking that the app doesn’t have permissions to take action but.

locationd noting that Fantastical.app now has authorization

default 15:24:17.975759-0400 locationd shopper 'com.flexibits.fantastical2.mac' licensed for location; beginning shortly

default 15:24:17.976041-0400 locationd shopper 'com.flexibits.fantastical2.mac' licensed for location; beginning now, desiredAccuracy, 3000.0, distanceFilter, 1000.0, operatingMode 0, dynamicAccuracyReductionEnabled 0, allowsAlteredAccessoryLocations 0, activityType 0

Right here it appears to me that locationd is now recognizing that I’ve now licensed Fantastical.app to make use of my location knowledge (after clicking “enable” within the modal window).

Which appears good till a number of moments later.

locationd can’t learn (?) /Purposes/Fantastical.app

error 15:24:14.459094-0400 kernel 5 duplicate reviews for Sandbox: locationd(91559) deny(1) file-read-data /Purposes/Fantastical.app

The above log line was adopted by locationd logging that the Fantastical.app doesn’t have location permissions after all–one second after I licensed it.

default 15:24:16.052691-0400    locationd   {"msg":"shopper not presently licensed for location; sending error", "shopper":"com.flexibits.fantastical2.mac"}

I awakened my laptop computer the following day, and was greeted by this. I had clicked “okay” 5 or extra occasions earlier than I started recording. This has occurred earlier than after I wake the pc from an extended sleep.

Any ideas?

Is there some solution to “reset” locationd to manufacturing unit settings or equal? It looks as if it is in a nasty state and its configuration is corrupted indirectly.

I have no idea if it has related log traces when the TV.app frequently asks for location permissions, however my hunch is that they’re the identical.

Has anybody else had and solved this earlier than?
